THE GIRL BEHIND THE BLOG

I wanted to share my story with you all so you know the girl behind this blog a little better…

I am 30 years old, married my high school crush, have an Australian Shepherd named Brody, a bunny named Cleo, 3 hens and a rooster. I work as a Registered Nurse, Reiki Practitioner, Landlord and now adding Blogger to the list-who says you have to do one thing! 😉 I would consider myself a pretty spiritual person. I am a big believer in the law of attraction and energy, which I will explain further in a blog. I grew up on the Connecticut shoreline and the beach is hands down my favorite place to be. I love the warm weather and doing anything outside pretty much. My family is very important to me and I’ve been blessed to have amazing friends by my side throughout the years.  I am also a big foodie! I try to eat healthy most of the time, but I have a huge sweet tooth which gets the best of me most days.

I am very grateful for the life I live now, however, my life hasn’t always been so great. I’ve gone through many ups and downs and as cliché as it may sound, the bad times have truly shaped me into the person I am today. My life is not perfect now, but I have finally learned how to stay positive and keep my peace over the years.

My “Why”…

I am going to summarize a few of the tougher times I’ve been through now to help you understand why I wanted to start this blog. I promised myself to be open and vulnerable on this blog so I could help others more.

To start, I’ve had to deal with my parents divorce at 9 years old, which I know many others unfortunately have to go through as well. I dealt with a new step mom, step brothers and several step dads/new boyfriends moving in and out of my homes, custody battles, court cases, child protective services, parents with mental illness/drug and alcohol problems etc. I’ve suffered with severe panic attacks, anxiety, depression and an Eating Disorder on and off throughout the years since I was 14 years old. I had to move around frequently and adapt to new environments quickly. I was on and off different medications and in therapy most of my high school and college years. And what was supposed to be one of the best year’s of my life, freshman year of college, I had to get a mandated restraining order on the parent I was closest with.

I have thought about leaving the above paragraph out of my blog for months due to it being so personal, making me feel completely vulnerable and even ashamed. However, when I decided I wanted to start a blog, it was mainly because I wanted to be the person I needed growing up. I want to be authentic and I want others to know they can be authentic too. I have learned just simply being yourself is the best way to live a more blissful life. I also want people to realize it is 100% possible to go through all of that plus way more and still live a happy, healthy life. Is it easy? Absolutely not. Is it worth it? Absolutely.

I put myself in therapy when I was 15, went on medication for a short period, started exercising and meditating daily, got myself student loans, grants and scholarships to complete both of my degrees, bought my first Multi-Family home at the age of 26 (Real Estate is another passion of mine), started a Reiki business, working as a Nurse Full-Time and I now have a better relationship with both of my parents than I ever did before.

I believe everyone has the power to turn their world around at any time. As everyone knows, life is not perfect, however, your outlook on every situation will determine what kind of life you decide to live.
