Finding Comfort When Everything Goes Wrong

You know those periods in life where everything seems to be going “wrong?”  Maybe it’s a friendship falling through, a job or major you thought you loved but realize that you hate, a break up, a bad semester, etc.  Although at the time these things are painful and all-consuming, soon you’ll realize why they happened.  Life happens for you, not to you.

When things are going wrong, simply get on your knees and pray.  Ask to see the lesson in whatever is going on.  Ask to see the love in the situations around you.  Ask for a miracle.  And then… just wait.  This is the hardest part, but the most amazing.  You’ve got to wait patiently without trying to manipulate the situations around you — and then watch the beauty of prayer and patience unfold around you.

Sometimes you will see the lesson that day, that week, or that months… or other times you may have to wait quite some time before you can be in a place to see the lesson in all those “bad” moments before.  Trust that everything is being shown to you at the proper time, and that all these events are leading to something bigger and better than you could imagine.

When something bad happens you have three choices.  You can let it define you, let it destroy you, or you can let it strengthen you.

I choose to let it strengthen me.  Even if at first it feels like an obstacle I can’t see over, I know there is something around the corner. I know there’s a lesson to learn in this.  I know there’s a loving perspective I can take and that this is just another way for me to practice patience, compassion, and trust in whatever plan life has for me.

Lots of love,
