Live Your Truth!

When I was starting my journey into holistic health and wellness, I mostly hid it from everyone. I would spend hours scrolling through healthy living blogs, watch yoga videos on YouTube, and quietly contemplate changing to a plant-based diet.  I spent all of my free time researching the ins and outs of a new holistic lifestyle.

I dropped the parties, the gossip, and the self-hate and picked up studying at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, a new love for myself, and created a healthy living blog.

I was meditating, praying, journaling, and studying “A Course in Miracles.” Things were beginning to change, big time. However, there was one thing giving me a great amount of stress.  I was being inauthentic.  Although I was making all these changes, I continued acting the same way with friends, family, and strangers because I was afraid of what people would think if they saw the real me.

I played out so many scenarios in my head:

“Oh, Katie is no fun anymore.”

“Did you see what she posted? That’s so stupid.”

“She is into all that weird hippie stuff now.”

I started very slowly letting people in – posting pictures of my yoga practice on Instagram, tweeting quotes that inspired me, and having conversations about my new found passions with some close friends.

Suddenly, one day it hit me: I am in love with my life and I want to share it.  In order to share it – all of it – i’ve got to show my true colors.  If someone wants to judge me and call me weird for doing what I love, so be it.  I’m happy, fulfilled, and spreading love by being my authentic self.  Who can complain about that?

Think about it. If we all showed our authentic selves – our talents, gifts, flaws, and positive attributes – we would all feel a lot happier and more at ease. We would finally be free from all the pressure we put on ourselves to be “perfect.”

So while being my authentic self might turn some people off, i’ve accepted that and that’s totally fine. By being real I allow myself to attract the people who really connect with me and understand me.

Layer by layer, get down to your core and figure out what it is you stand for and how you want to be. And then be it. And share it with the world. By being your authentic self, you inspire others to be their authentic selves.  Imagine the beauty of that!

So, let’s talk. Do you struggle with being 100% authentic? Why do you think that is?
Do you keep it real? How has that impacted your life?

Lots of love!

  1. Hey Katie! I know that we haven’t talked in a while, but I just wanted to say that I’ve been reading some of your blog entries, and I’ve enjoyed what you’ve had to say so far. It’s very refreshing and inspiring!
